The results show that the majority of the participants were gender segregated and undergraduates majoring in English or preparatory year students. A total of 133 papers that have been published between January 2000 and December 2020 were collected and analyzed in respect to the following themes: (a) context and participants, (b) topics, (c) research methodology and data sources, and (d) journals and publications. This bibliometric study examines papers in this area over the past two decades. Our aims are to identify current trends, research design and conduct, and determine future agendas within this area. We provide a scoping overview of research into the topic of teaching English composition in the tertiary Saudi context.
